MC Cartagena has called on citizens to gather this Saturday, October 24, at 11:00 a.m. in front of the train station to participate in the public reading of the Manifesto for the Train, as part of the Impulsa Cartagena program. Under the slogan "Cartagena wants a train," the initiative aims to recover and improve the railway connections of the municipality.

The party spokesperson, Jesús Giménez Gallo, has emphasized that the event will take place coinciding with the 164th anniversary of the train journey made by Isabel II from Cartagena on October 24, 1862. The goal is to bring together neighbors, groups, and representatives from different sectors around the demands outlined in the manifesto.

Among the main demands are the recovery of the direct connection with Madrid, the arrival of high speed, and the Beniel bypass, as well as integration into the Mediterranean Corridor and the railway connection of the port, Escombreras, and the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) of Los Camachos, as detailed by the organization.

The text also demands the Alumbres variant, the elimination of level crossings in La Palma, Pozo Estrecho, Alumbres, Vista Alegre, and Los Mateos, the improvement of Cercanías services, and the modernization and expansion of the FEVE line to articulate the region. Additionally, it proposes ensuring accessibility and establishing investment commitments with specific timelines.

Giménez Gallo has pointed out as a priority the reopening of the direct connection with Madrid, which, he indicated, the Government Delegation has committed to restore before the end of 2026. At the same time, he stressed that the railway needs of Cartagena are not limited to that line and has called for progress in the essential railway integration for the arrival of high speed, the Beniel bypass, and the expansion of FEVE.

"It is about the date they say and the funding they promise being committed and true," stated the spokesperson, who urged that the upcoming General State Budgets include progress on the pending infrastructures.

The training has emphasized that the reading of the manifesto should not remain a one-time action, but rather become the starting point of a continued claim until the administrations fulfill the commitments made in the document. Likewise, it has demanded greater involvement from the business fabric, especially in the defense of the Mediterranean Corridor and the railway connections of the port.
