More than 8,000 Uber Eats delivery workers will see their working conditions strengthened after an agreement promoted by CCOO, which represents a new advance in the rights of 'riders' within the process of laborization of what was the last major digital delivery platform in Spain, according to the union in a statement.
At the beginning of the year, and in execution of the record drawn up by the Labor Inspection, Uber Eats recognized the employment relationship as an employee for all the delivery workers operating on its application. In line with this change, last week the company informed CCOO and UGT of its intention to transfer its delivery division to the company Quinde Crew and requested to open a specific negotiation table to organize this transfer.
After all parties confirmed the importance of consolidating a solid framework of labor relations, with dignified conditions that comply with regulations and allow for efficient operations, the union has announced that an agreement has been reached that improves the usual working conditions in the sector for nearly 4,300 delivery workers who will be integrated as staff of Quinde Crew.
The agreement also includes the creation of a monitoring committee that, over the next three years, will supervise the strict compliance with the commitments made by the companies and the trade union organizations.
With the aim of ensuring a balanced relationship environment, a permanent dialogue committee has also been agreed upon, which includes the fleet of Closer Logistics, with more than 4,000 people on staff and which, like Quinde Crew, provides exclusive service to the platform.
In this dialogue forum, which concentrates more than 70% of the operational activity of Uber Eats, the evolution of employment, salary levels, and the organization of the workday will be studied, in addition to addressing algorithmic management and conflict resolution mechanisms in the processes of union elections.
As a result of this negotiation space, and in light of the need to unify labor conditions in delivery, it has been decided to extend the salary improvements to the staff of Closer Logistics through progressive salary increases every four months, with a maximum application period of one year.
The companies involved in the agreement Uber Eats, Quinde Crew, and Closer Logistics, along with CCOO and UGT, agree on the urgency of promoting "urgently" the negotiation of a collective agreement that provides stable sectoral coverage for this activity.
