Endesa has conveyed this Wednesday to the Consell de Menorca its roadmap for investments in the distribution network of the island for the period 2027-2030. The plan includes a total expenditure of over 15.2 million euros and the implementation of 112 actions aimed at increasing the capacity and resilience of the electrical infrastructures in Menorca.
In the municipal detail, the program includes seven interventions in Alaior, with an allocation of 2.5 million euros; 34 in Ciutadella, with a budget of 3.2 million; ten in Es Mercadal, with an investment of 4.4 million; 57 in Maó, with 4.3 million assigned, and four in Sant Lluís, with an amount close to 833,000 euros.
The company has specified in a statement that, overall, these actions will involve intervening in more than 64 kilometers of network. In the case of Ciutadella, the planned works are integrated into the specific plan to reinforce the electrical network of the municipality that Endesa announced last year.
At the same time, the electricity company has advanced that it is preparing a load reconfiguration study in order to analyze in detail the behavior of the network and identify new interventions that allow optimizing its operability and robustness.
During the meeting with the Consell, Endesa has stated that most of the actions correspond to investments in the medium voltage network. At the same time, the company has emphasized that it continues to define an additional improvement plan for the low voltage network, which will be added to these investments to continue reinforcing the capacity and resilience of the electrical system of Menorca.
In this regard, the company has indicated that the execution of the works will be carried out gradually, conditioned on obtaining the necessary authorizations and permits from the various competent administrations.
Incidents recorded during the summer campaign
The meeting has also served to analyze the causes of the incidents that have occurred this summer in various points of the island.
Endesa has explained that these episodes have been due to the high demand placed on various elements of the network as a consequence of the high temperatures maintained during the last two months, which has caused occasional failures and the activation of protection systems in certain areas of Menorca.
The company has reiterated its commitment to the modernization of the electrical infrastructures of the island and to the realization of the necessary investments to adapt the network to the energy challenges of the coming years, reinforcing its capacity, reliability, and resilience in the face of the progressive increase in demand.
In the meeting participated the director of Endesa in the Balearic Islands, Martí Ribas; the director of Distribution of Endesa in the Balearic Islands, Joseba Gámez, and the head of the technical team of Menorca, Manuel Vidal. On the part of the Consell Insular attended the president, Adolfo Vilafranca; the councilor of Environment and Biosphere Reserve, José Simón Gornés, and the island director of Biosphere Reserve, David Vidal.
