The overnight stays in hotels and similar accommodations in Spain totaled 44.8 million in July, which represents a slight increase of 0.3% compared to the same month of the previous year, according to provisional data released this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
This moderate growth in stays at Spanish hotels during July was solely due to the increase in overnight stays by visitors from other countries, which rose by 1.1%, while those made by residents in Spain fell by 1.1% year-on-year in the seventh month of the year.
In the accumulated total for the first seven months of the year, hotel nights in Spain increased by 1.5% compared to the same period in 2025, with an increase of 0.8% among resident travelers and 1.8% among foreign tourists.
By autonomous communities, Andalusia, Catalonia, and the Valencian Community were the favorite destinations for Spanish travelers in July, accounting for 24.7%, 14.2%, and 13.4% of overnight stays, respectively. In contrast, tourists from abroad mainly chose the Balearic Islands (33.4%), Catalonia (20.2%), and the Canary Islands (18.6%).
In terms of prices, the Hotel Price Index recorded an increase of 5.9% in July compared to the same month in 2025, the largest increase since April 2025, when it rose by 7%. With this new spike, noted during the peak summer season, hotel rates have now recorded 50 consecutive months of year-on-year increases.
According to Statistics, hotel establishments earned an average of 156.8 euros per occupied room in July, 6.8% more than a year earlier. The average daily income per available room (RevPAR), an indicator conditioned by the occupancy rate, stood at 119.3 euros, representing an increase of 6.6%.
