The president of Grupo Planeta and Atresmedia, José Creuheras, detailed this Tuesday that the publishing conglomerate is in "advanced conversations" to acquire Editorial Juventud, a historic Barcelona house that publishes Tintin and the author Enid Blyton.

During the press conference prior to the Premio Planeta, held at the Palau de la Música, Creuheras confirmed that he is in contact with the centenary company, as "El Periódico" reported this Wednesday.

"It has very important works that would complement our catalog" and that are aimed at a more child and youth audience," Creuheras stated, highlighting the strategic fit of these titles within the group's editorial lines.

The book market in Spain

The general director of the Editorial Division of Planeta, Jesús Badenes, indicated that the book market in Spain recorded a 3.8% increase in 2025, with rises in both fiction —notably driven by manga— and non-fiction.

Badenes pointed out that Spanish citizens read more frequently, including young readers, favored by a "positive effect" of social media, and predicted a sustained increase in the audiobook format.

Regarding formats, he specified that printed books account for 92% of sales, compared to 8% for digital books. In addition, he emphasized that bookstores continue to be the main sales channel, accounting for 72% of physical sales, of which 40% corresponds to independent bookstores, a share much higher than that of the United States and the United Kingdom.
