Renfe has increased the supervision of the 'bogies' in the S106 AF series trains from Talgo and has proactively set aside two additional units during the last week of August, according to what the railway operator communicated this Wednesday in an official note.

This decision is part of the implementation of the specific control and monitoring plan agreed upon last year with the Spanish Railway Safety Agency, after cracks were detected in these elements. It is a prevention protocol that Renfe has kept active since July 2025.

The public company has requested Talgo, as the manufacturer of these trains, to delve into the investigation of the causes of the defects, determine the real extent of the incident, and adopt all necessary technical solutions to ensure the maximum reliability of the rolling stock in commercial operation.

In this regard, the manufacturer has informed Renfe that the marks have been detected in units that have not circulated through the Madrid-Barcelona corridor, which allows ruling out the condition of that infrastructure as the main source of the observed damages.

The operator has reiterated that it will keep any composition that has the slightest doubt regarding the condition of these mechanical components out of circulation and will only allow its reintegration into service once the reviews and technical tests set out in the plan have been passed.

Similarly, the entity emphasizes that it is essential for the driving and maintenance personnel to have all operational guarantees, so it will continue to inform the drivers and their representatives about the measures adopted and the technical evolution of the situation.

These actions are being developed in parallel to the agreement reached this summer between Renfe and Talgo to modify the original design of the 30 contracted S106 trains and convert the 15 trains equipped with fixed-width 'bogies' into units with movable rolling stock. In this way, a homogeneous fleet of 30 compositions will be formed, of which 20 will be allocated to AVE services and 10 will operate in AVLO.

Talgo will assume the complete execution of this plan, will be responsible for the correct functioning, and will bear the cost of the improvements introduced in the chassis, commitments that will also extend to the S107 series after the first favorable results obtained in the extensometry tests.
