The Federal Railway Sector Union of the CGT (SFF-CGT) has shown its rejection of the words of the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, and has censured that responsibility is publicly attributed to the staff of the Atocha Regulation and Control Center (CRC) for the Urda (Toledo) accident without having previously clarified all the circumstances of what happened.
The trade union organization considers it "unacceptable" to turn a specific action, or the person who carried it out, into a premature explanation of the facts and urges that all possible circumstances be investigated.
In this regard, the union underscores that a serious railway accident cannot be understood by analyzing only the last link in the chain, since the railway operates as a global system and safety problems should not be studied by isolating groups, companies or functions.
For this reason, it calls for the investigation to also take into account generational turnover processes, the practical training essential to perform certain positions, the available resources and the mental burden associated with the management of complex episodes during continuous monitoring shifts.
In this line, the organization recalls that last May it presented a proposal to amend Royal Decree 929/2020 in order to establish clear limits on continuous traffic control activity, guarantee effective breaks, regulate the times of taking up and leaving the service, and consider factors such as night work, shifts or degraded situations.
