The president of the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodations, Jorge Marichal, has emphasized that the summer season is developing in a "calm" manner for the sector in Spain, in line with initial forecasts and "practically similar" to the figures reached in 2025.
In statements disseminated on social media, he has focused on "some surprises" related to the 0.3% increase in hotel overnight stays in July, with particularly positive behavior in the north of the country, especially in the campsites of Asturias, as well as in the evolution of Zaragoza.
On the other hand, he mentioned that Fuerteventura has recorded a slight decline compared to the previous year, although without changing the "positive" trend that maintains tourist activity.
These data coincide with the projections included in the report "Smart Observatory Summer-Autumn 2026," prepared by the employers' association together with PwC, where a summer very similar to the previous year was anticipated and a strengthening of international demand.
In addition, the favorable forecast for the summer campaign is supported by robust air connectivity, as routes to Spain will increase by 6.1% between July and September, with greater dynamism from Italy (+10.8%), the United Kingdom (+7.7%), and the overall international markets (+11.4%).
