The general strike called for next November 11, centered on the housing problem and the increase in the cost of living, already adds 4,342 endorsements from works councils, union sections and workers' assemblies, according to what the Sindicato de Inquilinas reported this Monday.

The organization details that representatives of different union sections and works councils of workforces from companies such as Seat, Volkswagen, Amazon, Mercadona, Renfe, Telefónica or BBVA, spread across various territories, have decided to join the call.

The Sindicato de Inquilinas likewise highlights the involvement of staff from companies such as Nissan, CAF, Alstom, Michelin or Siemens Energy; in the field of transport and logistics, of Amazon Logistics, Renfe, Sindicato Ferroviario Intersindical, Metro de Madrid and Ferrocarrils Metropolitans de Barcelona; and in commerce and distribution, of Lidl, Alcampo, Zara, Leroy Merlin or Burger King.

To these are added support in telecommunications and technology firms such as Telefónica and Indra, financial entities such as BBVA and Santander, hotel chains such as Barceló and Meliá, large service companies such as Eulen, Clece and Urbaser, in addition to representatives of the educational sector such as STEM or USTEA.

The call also reaches the public sector, with adhesions from representative bodies of the workforces of administrations such as the Ministries of Health, Culture and Justice, together with the Junta de Andalucía, the Generalitat de Cataluña, the Gobierno Vasco, the Junta de Castilla y León and the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha, in addition to city councils such as those of Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Málaga and Valladolid.

Individual adherence to the 11N strike

Likewise, the organization indicates that the general strike of 11N enables an individual adherence route to broaden participation beyond union structures and workplaces. With this formula, the calling entities intend to make it easier for any interested person to join the protest against the housing crisis and the rising cost of living, regardless of their employment situation or prior experience in strike processes.

Through the individual adherence form, participating people will be able to receive information on how to exercise their right to strike in their workplaces, the mobilizations and events planned in their neighborhoods and municipalities, as well as the different ways to get involved before and during November 11.

The proposal seeks to clarify the doubts that workers of small companies, self-employed workers, and people who are not yet part of any organization may have, while showing social support for a call that aims to go beyond trade union structures and become a mobilization of a mass and popular character.

Beyond housing policies

Sindicato de Inquilinas underscores that the purpose of the strike is to place housing and the cost of living at the center of the labor and social conflict, insisting that the call is not directed only against housing policies, but also against the employers' association, big companies, and the governments that sustain an economic model "in which those who work produce wealth and a few appropriate it".

The trade union organization adds that, eight days before the date, the strike continues expanding beyond workplaces. The territorial committees organize mobilizations and actions in neighborhoods and municipalities, while the shopping strike in large stores, promoted by a broad alliance of social, environmental, and consumer organizations, calls for stopping consumption at large chains and supporting local commerce.

Self-employed workers are also encouraged to participate by closing their businesses or with various forms of support for the day. "The 4,342 endorsements reached so far are a decisive step toward a massive, popular general strike capable of paralyzing the country," concludes Sindicato de Inquilinas.
