The Ibex 35 of the Madrid Stock Exchange recorded at midday this Thursday a decrease of 0.48%, which meant losing again the threshold of 20,000 points. Specifically, the Spanish selective was at 19,968 points at 12:00 hours, on a day marked by moderate euphoria after the good results of the advanced microprocessor manufacturer Nvidia, published yesterday at the close of the European markets.

The American multinational, currently the publicly traded company with the highest capitalization on the planet, obtained a net profit of 59.688 billion dollars (51.156 billion euros) in its second fiscal quarter (May-July), which implies an increase of 126% compared to the same period of the previous year. Revenue also skyrocketed, more than doubling in year-on-year terms, to 96.221 billion dollars (82.467 billion euros), with an additional advance of 18% compared to the previous quarter.

At the same time, the company led by Jensen Huang has forecast an increase in revenues "of approximately 70%" in its next fiscal year (2027/2028), supported by the strong pull of demand for AI solutions, which is accelerating the deployment of new technological infrastructures around the world.

In parallel, the markets are paying close attention to the annual meeting of central bankers in Jackson Hole, which begins this Thursday and will feature tomorrow Friday the speech of the chairman of the Federal Reserve (Fed), Kevin Warsh.

Warsh is debuting as host in this forum, which has been held since 1982 in this mountain resort during the last weekend of August, and which on this occasion will be conditioned by the tensions affecting the debt of the United States (US) and by the new communication strategy of the head of the Fed.

Analysts expect the American central banker to provide in his speech some guidance on the future of interest rates in the US, as well as his assessment of the recent turbulence surrounding the US bond, after the strong rise in the yields demanded after the country's debt surpassed the historical threshold of 40 trillion dollars (34.3 trillion euros), and the announcement of action by the Treasury to curb this escalation.

At the same time, investors remain very attentive to the situation in the Middle East following the economic offensive against Iran launched by the United States and the agreement reached between the Islamic Republic and Oman for the safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The proposed negotiation framework foresees the creation of a joint and temporary maritime corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a pact to develop a common demining project in this strategic maritime route.

However, Iranian authorities have emphasized that this "phased plan" agreed with Oman to manage transit through the Strait of Hormuz does not imply the "immediate opening" of this key passage, as its full reopening is conditioned on the fulfillment of the requirements set by Tehran.

In parallel, the Iranian government has asked UN member states and the Security Council to "condemn and reject" the new economic offensive launched by the United States and to "refrain from approving or implementing" what it describes as "unilateral coercive measures" aimed at "forcing" other countries to "modify their relations."

In this geopolitical context, the price of Brent crude oil, a reference in Europe, was up a slight 0.11% in the mid-session of the Old Continent's stock markets, reaching $87.94, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI), a reference in the US, was down 0.21%, to $82.07 per barrel.

Solaria leads the gains of the Ibex 35

In the Spanish corporate sector, Logista is distributing this Thursday a dividend on account of the 2026 fiscal year amounting to 77 million euros (€0.58 per share), 3.6% higher than the dividend on account paid the previous year. The company thus reiterates its commitment to distribute in 2026 a total dividend per share of at least the same amount delivered in the 2024 and 2025 fiscal years (€2.09 gross per share).

At 12:00 hours, the most notable advances within the Ibex 35 corresponded to Solaria (+4.19%), Indra (+1.36%), Acciona Energia (+1.12%), Acciona (+0.86%), and Acerinox (+0.84%). On the downside, the largest corrections were for Aena (-2.46%), Cellnex (-1.68%), Ferrovial (-1.32%), Colonial (-1.1%), and Repsol (-0.97%).

On the other hand, the main European markets were moving in negative territory at midday, with the only exception of the German DAX 30, which was up 0.21%. The British FTSE 100 was down 0.66%; the French CAC 40, down 1%; and the Italian Mib, down 0.53%.

In the foreign exchange market, the euro was retreating against the dollar, trading in the markets for 1.164 'greenbacks'. In fixed income, the yield on the Spanish ten-year bond rose to 3.697%, which raised the risk premium —the differential compared to the German ten-year bond— to 44.86 basis points.
