The unemployment rate in Mexico remained at 2.9% during the month of July, with no variations compared to the previous month, according to data published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
In the seventh month of 2026, the economic participation rate reached 59.2%, which represents an increase of four tenths compared to June. At the same time, the number of unemployed people increased by 19,842, totaling 1,813,431 citizens without work. The informality rate advanced by one point and two tenths, reaching 56.2%.
The economically active population rose to 62,570,236 people, that is, 690,833 more than in the previous month. In parallel, the number of employed individuals increased by 670,991, reaching 60,756,805 workers.
By sectors of activity, workers were mainly concentrated in services, with 26.6 million people (43.8%); followed by commerce, with 11.9 million (19.6%); industry, with 9.7 million (15.9%); the primary sector, with 6.4 million (10.6%); and construction, with 5.3 million (8.7%). Other economic activities, including mining, electricity, or water and gas supply, accounted for 453,000 employees (0.7%), while 350,000 people (0.6%) did not specify their sector of activity.
The sectors that expanded their workforce the most since July 2025 were construction, with 523,000 new positions, and various services, with 139,000. In contrast, agriculture, livestock, forestry, hunting, and fishing cut 279,000 jobs; professional, financial, and corporate services, 190,000; and social services, 151,000.
