The trade union organizations that have promoted the general strike on November 11 will formalize next Monday at the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy the different planned protest actions within the framework of this call.

It is expected that the general secretary of CCOO, Unai Sordo; the general secretary of UGT, Pepe Álvarez; the general secretary of CGT, Miguel Fadrique; the general secretary of CNT, Nieves Román; the general secretary of the Union of Actors and Actresses, Juanjo Artero; the spokesperson for Intersindical and member of the state direction of Co.Bas, Andrea Zayas, and the spokesperson for the Confederation of Tenant Unions, Valeria Racu, will attend.

The strike, which has its main origin in the housing crisis that the country is suffering, was confirmed on October 7 by the calling organizations, coinciding with the death of Maricarmen, the 87-year-old woman evicted at the end of September from the Madrid home where she lived for 71 years and who has become a symbol of the fight for housing.

The spokesperson for the Tenants' Union of Madrid and the Confederation of Tenant Unions, Alicia del Río, explained at a press conference that the main demands of the call are indefinite rental contracts, "drastic" reductions in rent and housing prices, the end of evictions, a wealth tax to finance a public housing stock, and the end of speculative buying.

At the same time, CCOO and UGT have extended the focus of the mobilization to labor and economic demands, with demands for salary increases, reduction of working hours, improvement of the health of workers, and elimination of precariousness. They also demand to control prices, unblock collective bargaining, and promote public policies that curb speculation in the housing market.

The strike will take place two days before the start of the electoral campaign, set for November 13, ahead of the early general elections on November 29. These elections were called after Congress rejected the two royal decree-laws presented by the Government on housing matters.
