The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has called this Monday for a boycott against the Canadian group Bombardier, dedicated to aircraft and railway material manufacturing, thus intensifying the trade dispute open between Washington and Ottawa.
"ENOUGH ALREADY OF SELLING BOMBARDIER PRODUCTS IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products are not good enough! More than 50% of their income comes from the United States: they live off American buyers, American companies, American airports, and American services, while Canada blocks our GREAT banks and companies," he stated in a post on Truth Social.
"They even prevented Gulfstream Aerospace from operating in Canada. Something totally unfair! That era IS OVER! If they want our market, they must manufacture here and stop treating the U.S. like a 'piggy bank.' BUY AMERICAN PRODUCTS. FLY ON AMERICAN AIRLINES. ENJOY AMERICAN ALCOHOLIC AND NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. SAIL ON LAKE AMERICA. AMERICA FIRST!" he added.
Trade tensions between the two countries have intensified in recent months regarding tariff policy, after the failure of the latest rounds of dialogue aimed at reducing the levies set by the United States.
In this context, Trump has proposed raising tariffs on a series of products from Canada, such as vehicles, trucks, automotive components, and steel, up to 50%, with an expected entry into force on January 1, 2027.
In response, the Canadian government has announced a package of counter-tariff measures that will begin to be applied this Tuesday, September 8, with surcharges of between 15% and 50% on products related to steel and aluminum, as well as on other goods such as dairy, fish, and seafood.
