The parliamentary groups of Vox and the PP in the Assembly of Extremadura have demanded from the Government of Spain the adoption of specific measures to face the "insecurity" and the reality that young people in Ceuta have been living since the massive entry of migrants recorded last July.

The Vox deputy Ángel Pelayo Gordillo defended this Thursday in the plenary of the regional chamber the initiative for pronouncement registered by his party, which has moved forward with the support of the PP and the vote against the PSOE and Unidas por Extremadura.

During his speech, Gordillo expressed his support for the people of Ceuta, who in his opinion have been suffering for three months from a "dantesque situation caused by this dying and traitorous government," and stated that if the "Sanchista nightmare" in Spain ends on November 29, it will also end for the citizens of the autonomous city.

In his speech, he attacked the president of the Government by stating that "we cannot get used to being governed by a liar, an incompetent, a person overwhelmed by corruption, a traitor who has betrayed the Spaniards," and added that the central Executive knew "in advance what would happen."

As he emphasized, "they did not prevent it because they could not prevent it, because Morocco would have reacted against Sánchez and probably would have swept him away." He described that Ceuta is going through a "critical situation," with minors who cannot attend school normally and women who do not feel safe, because the members of the Government "do not dare to confront the tyrant of Morocco."

Gordillo insisted that the reality of childhood and youth in Ceuta is "particularly serious," recalling that at the beginning of the school year there was an absenteeism rate of 25.15 percent among enrolled students. In this context, he pointed out that "something" will have to be done with Ceuta and proposed the return "to their home" of those who entered irregularly. "To all, from the first to the last," he emphasized.

Content of the initiative

Among the proposals included in the Vox text is to urge the Government of Spain to ensure effective control of the border, preventing the consequences of the "immigration invasion" from falling on Ceuta families, and to place the protection of childhood and youth as priorities of the State's action in Ceuta.

The initiative also includes ensuring safety and health in educational centers and their access, as well as in the usual spaces and movements of children, adolescents, and young people, and preserving the educational, sports, and youth use of the facilities intended for all Spaniards.

Another of the demands is to ensure sufficient resources for the prevention, early detection, and psychological and psychiatric care of children, adolescents, and young people in Ceuta, paying special attention to the consequences that the situation of "insecurity, uncertainty, and disruption of their routines may provoke in their mental health and emotional well-being."

Likewise, it is proposed to implement a specific system for monitoring school absenteeism linked to fear or the feeling of insecurity of families, and to guarantee "periodic and transparent" information about the impact that the massive entry is having on the child and youth population of Ceuta. The text also includes reinforcing security devices and the actions of the State Security Forces and Bodies and establishing compensations for the Ceuta families who are bearing the consequences of that massive entry.

Position of the groups

In the parliamentary debate, the deputy of the Popular Group Hipólito Pacheco indicated that his party aims to maintain good relations with the Alaouite kingdom, stating that his party wants to get along "well with Morocco" but not "at the cost of endangering the territorial integrity of the Spanish nation."

He defended that there is "no commitment with Morocco, beyond knowing that it is a crucial neighbor in Spain's international relations" and that the country acts as "a bridge between Morocco and the European Union." He also maintained that the PP does not support irregular immigration, but rather an orderly immigration that comes to Spain "to contribute and not to commit crimes." "That is the immigration we believe in, not in massive regularizations," he emphasized.

On behalf of the PSOE, the deputy Alfonso Beltrán Muñoz has reproached that, despite the proposal being formulated to address the situation of young people in Ceuta, the representative of Vox only referred to them in the last "35 seconds" of his speech. He has also assured that the text is based on a "false argument" by stating that the Government of Spain maintains a "total abandonment" of the autonomous city, and has listed the investments and plans promoted by the central Executive.

According to him, "not only has action been taken, but the largest investment effort and the reinforcement of public services in the recent history of the city of Ceuta has been deployed".

On behalf of Unidas por Extremadura, the deputy David Araújo has stated that it takes "a lot of shamelessness" to deliver Gordillo's speech, and has maintained that the "only" thing that moves the deputies of Vox is "hate". He has also criticized that the initiative does not offer concrete solutions for the youth of Ceuta, but rather constitutes "a new plea against immigration".

"To point fingers at the guilty, there are plenty of words, but to make proposals, to address the problems of youth, for that they have less. And let it be clear, if there is any crime in Ceuta, let it be investigated. If there are security problems, let action be taken, but please, stop trying to manipulate public opinion," Araújo has concluded.

During the debate, the spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Isabel Gil Rosiña, has requested the floor to ask that statements made by the PP deputy Hipólito Pacheco about socialist women be verified and, if confirmed to be offensive, that such expressions be withdrawn from the session diary.
