The PP has announced that it will formally request the appearance of the Government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, in the regional Parliament, in order to provide detailed explanations about the arrival of migrants to the Islands.
In a statement, the 'popular' party lashes out at the central Executive for "reaching the point of even denying what everyone has heard from Sánchez himself at the podium of Congress," referring to the existence of reports that warned of a "high risk" of migrant entries that did not affect Ceuta, but the Balearic archipelago.
"When we already thought they could not surpass themselves in lying, now they even deny what we all have heard with our own ears directly from Sánchez's mouth," stated the coordinator and spokesperson of the PP in the Parliament, Sebastià Sagreras, very critical of the version offered by the Government.
As Sagreras recalled, the president of the Government stated that "it has also been said that the National Police had warned a week earlier of a high risk in Ceuta, and that is not correct. That report existed, but it spoke exclusively of maritime arrivals to the peninsula and to the Balearic Islands, and therefore not to the Ceuta border." For the PP leader, these words contrast with the subsequent clarifications disseminated by the Executive.
Thus, Sagreras has described as "an attempt by the Government and the PSOE through government sources to deny the content of the president's statements" the information that seeks to nuance what Sánchez said in Parliament, and has insisted that the content of the reports pointed directly to the Balearic Islands.
The PP deputy also referred to the headlines published by various media outlets, which state that Sánchez indicated that the report warning of massive arrivals referred to the Balearic Islands, to question whether "is the PSOE Government really accusing all media of distorting in the same sense?".
At the same time, he expressed that he feels "surprised" that the Executive's response is channeled "through anonymous sources and not from the Government delegate in the islands or from any of the Mallorcan secretaries of state," thus demanding that those responsible show their faces with names and surnames.
The spokesperson has emphasized that his group will insist that Alfonso Rodríguez attend the Parliament to report on this issue. "We understand that this time he will not say no, if he does, we will perfectly understand that it is because the information was concealed and no extraordinary measures were taken despite the risk to the Balearic Islands," Sagreras concluded.
