The authorities of China and North Korea confirmed this Wednesday the commissioning of a new bridge in the border area between both countries, with the aim of boosting trade exchanges, road traffic, and "the exchange between people on both sides of the river."
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Mao Ning, explained at a press conference that this infrastructure, built over the Yalu River that marks part of the common border, will facilitate smoother contact between Chinese and North Korean citizens, according to the state agency Xinhua.
"As agreed, the bridge will be officially opened to traffic this Thursday," Mao specified, before adding that delegations from both countries will attend the inauguration ceremony scheduled for that day.
The spokesperson also emphasized the value of the "good neighbor" relationship that Beijing and Pyongyang maintain, "connected by mountains and rivers," and highlighted that this work has "great relevance for connectivity" between the two territories.
