The Chinese authorities warned this Thursday that the new phase of economic pressure announced by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, against Iran "will not help to resolve the problem" between Washington and Tehran, insisting that the solution to the conflict must be sought through diplomatic means.
"Sanctions and pressure will not help to resolve the problem. China urges all parties involved to take responsible actions and resolve the problem through political and diplomatic means," said the spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, at a press conference.
Trump, in a new twist in his strategy towards Iran, has proclaimed an economic war against Tehran that he has described as the "most devastating operation ever undertaken against any country," emphasizing that the goal is to achieve "unprecedented isolation."
"It will be an economic war and unprecedented isolation," he declared. "Oil smuggling, exchange lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, shell companies: all of this must end now. You know who you are," said the American leader, who has dubbed the announcement as an "Economic D-Day," referring to the Normandy landing during World War II.
To successfully execute this campaign, Washington has called on the international community to join the initiative, warning that it will impose "tremendous economic consequences" on any country that allows any type of support to Tehran through its institutions or companies.
