The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated this Thursday from Mount Hermon, in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, that the pending mission is to "defeat" the "terrorist regime" of Iran.
"We are at the top of Mount Hermon. Damascus is right here, Lebanon is right there, the occupied Syrian Golan Heights are right there, and we control the entire area from the Crown of Hermon to the Yarmuk River, and from here to the Mediterranean Sea: absolute control like never seen before," the leader declared in a message disseminated on his social media from this occupied territory to Syria.
On the eve of Rosh Hashaná, the Jewish New Year that begins this Friday, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel "will not allow any terrorist army to establish itself on the border."
"This is one of the enormous achievements we have reached in the War of Redemption," he added, referring to the military offensive in the Gaza Strip following the attacks by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7, 2023.
"From these heights, there is still work to be done: the main task is to defeat the terrorist regime of Iran. We are very close to achieving it," he insisted, also emphasizing that "the entire axis will eventually fall," referring to the factions backed by Tehran.
"We are committed to doing it, and we will do it. I wish a happy New Year to the citizens of Israel and to our heroic soldiers who are carrying out this work here," Netanyahu concluded, who recently traveled to the Gaza Strip, where he reiterated that Israeli forces will not withdraw.
For its part, the Syrian government has condemned "in the strongest terms the illegal entry" of Netanyahu into Syrian territory, describing it as "a provocative action and a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic, of the territorial integrity of the country and of International Law."
In a statement, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that "the persistence of Israeli incursions and aggressions in Syrian territory constitutes a serious escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region."
In this regard, it pointed out that it is Israel, which it described as an "occupying" country, that must assume "full responsibility for the consequences of these violations."
Likewise, he has called on the international community, including the UN and the "influential" States, to "assume their responsibilities to put an end to these aggressions and return to the 1974 Separation Agreement."
