The Russian authorities have reported the death of thirteen people and several dozen injured following an attack by Ukrainian forces against the city of Nizhnekamsk, in the Republic of Tatarstan, considered one of the bloodiest recorded recently within Russia.
The Government of Tatarstan has detailed that twelve of the fatalities have been officially confirmed and that another 39 people have been injured in this drone attack, aimed at both industrial and civilian infrastructures. In Nizhnekamsk is one of the largest crude oil and petrochemical refineries in all of Europe.
In this locality, located about a thousand kilometers from the border with Ukraine, two large companies dedicated to the processing of oil and gas condensate operate, which had already been the target of previous Ukrainian offensives since the beginning of the conflict, which has been ongoing for more than four and a half years.
The regional governor, Rustam Minnikhanov, has declared a day of mourning in memory of the victims of this new operation by Ukrainian forces, framed within the campaign of long-range attacks against energy facilities and refineries developed by Kiev in recent months.
On the part of the Federal Government, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, has come forward to condemn these bombings and reproach the lack of reaction from the international community, which she accuses of "complicity."
"We call on the sensible representatives of the international community, organizations, and independent media to judge the terrorist crimes of Kiev harshly," she stated.
"The daily atrocities of the Kiev regime against the civilian population in other regions of Russia continue, causing casualties, including children, women, and the elderly," Zakharova denounced, who cited six fatalities in Ukrainian attacks during the past weekend in the Belgorod province.
Later, in another statement, she specified that the majority of those killed in the attack on Monday did not have Russian nationality: at least eight of the thirteen dead would be citizens of Uzbekistan and one from Tajikistan, in addition to around twenty foreign injured.
In this way, he has accused the Ukrainian forces of attacking "deliberately the residences and workplaces of representatives of friendly countries with the aim of sowing discord in the fraternal relations between our peoples."
"We call on all members of the international community to condemn the barbaric crimes of the Ukrainian Nazis," the spokesperson added.
Ukraine acknowledges the operation in Nizhnekamsk
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has admitted authorship of the attack against the facilities in Nizhnekamsk, belonging to the state oil and gas company Tatneft, as well as against other strategic targets in various Russian regions.
"On the night of August 10, 2026, as part of the plan to reduce the military potential of the Russian aggressor, the units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked the Taneco oil refinery," as this industrial complex is known, according to the statement issued by the Ukrainian military authorities.
