The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has demanded this Tuesday the "immediate" release of two workers from the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), who have been in the custody of the Taliban authorities for more than a week.

His spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, indicated at a press conference that "we remain in contact with the de facto authorities in Kabul to obtain more information and also to secure their release, as they must be freed immediately," lamenting that both continue to be detained.

The arrested are two Afghan men who were captured in the city of Herat, in western Afghanistan, on August 9, for charges that have not yet been publicly detailed. So far, UNAMA has not been able to access the two detained employees.
