King Harald V of Norway has experienced a notable "deterioration" in his health after spending ten days hospitalized at the Oslo University Hospital, and he is currently in a "very serious" condition.
"The health of His Majesty the King has deteriorated. The health condition of His Majesty the King is very serious," the Norwegian Royal House has stated in a brief official note released to the media.
In that statement, it is also specified that the Crown Prince, Haakon, who is acting as regent at this time, and his mother, Queen Sonja, "cancel all their planned activities" in the institutional agenda.
Harald V, 89 years old, was hospitalized on August 17 for fluid retention, after undergoing a medical review related to the treatment he is receiving for the hemolytic anemia he suffers from.
The monarch has occupied the throne since 1991 and had to be treated earlier this year for a skin infection in a leg, which required his admission to the University Hospital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife while he was enjoying his vacation at the beginning of the year.
