The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, has conveyed his congratulations to the far-right candidate of the Liberal Party (PL) for the Presidency of Brazil, Flávio Bolsonaro, for his victory in the first round of the elections held this Sunday, in which he won with 47.03% of the votes against the current head of state, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Through a message disseminated on social media under the slogan "Freedom advances in Brazil," the Argentine leader has celebrated the result of his "dear friend" and has described the elections as a "historic election against the communist Lula." In his post, Milei has stated that "the American continent belongs to citizens who want to live in freedom" and has focused on the future of bilateral relations between both countries.

"I hope that soon we can start working together so that Argentina and Brazil continue to be great commercial, cultural, and political partners," the leader has pointed out, emphasizing that the opportunities for both states are "infinite" if they move forward hand in hand.

Milei's public support comes after it was confirmed that Bolsonaro and Lula da Silva (45.16%) will face each other in a second round on October 25. The PL candidate has garnered the support of more than 56 million Brazilian voters — surpassing his opponent by about 2.3 million ballots — after winning in the three states with the largest electoral rolls in the country: Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and Sao Paulo.
