The Geophysical Institute of Peru has communicated this Friday the detection of several aftershocks in the regions of Puno and Arequipa, in the south of the country, following the earthquake of magnitude 7.2 on the Richter scale recorded 35 kilometers north of Coracora, in the region of Ayacucho.

According to the institution attached to the Ministry of the Environment of Peru, during the early morning, local time, two aftershocks of magnitude 3.4 and 3.5 occurred in different areas of southern Peru.

In any case, these new tremors reflect a decrease in the intensity of seismic activity, after aftershocks of 4.2 and 4 were recorded in earthquakes that occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Ayacucho region itself.

For the moment, the authorities of Peru have not reported any fatalities from the earthquake with the epicenter in the north of Coracora. However, three injuries and damage to nearly thirty public buildings have been recorded, with more than 9,000 people affected by power outages in the departments of Ica and Ayacucho.
