The Polish authorities have ordered the deployment of combat aircraft in their own airspace as a precautionary measure, after Russian forces launched a new series of attacks against Ukraine in areas near the border with Poland.
The Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Poland announced in a statement on social media the start of a "military aviation operation in Polish airspace," a decision that it directly related to the "long-range aviation activity of the Russian Federation."
In that message, the Command explained that it had "mobilized" its units and put "the ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems on alert."
"These measures are preventive in nature and are aimed at securing and protecting the airspace, especially in areas adjacent to the threatened zones," it specified, also emphasizing that Polish forces are in control of the situation at all times and remain "on alert" to be able to "react immediately."
Shortly thereafter, the Government Security Center of Poland communicated the activation of Alert "RCB," the SMS notification system intended to inform the population about possible dangers. The notice was sent to mobile phone operators for dissemination, as well as to radio, television, the Polish press agency, and social media.
However, while the sending process was underway, the agency received information that "the threat had ceased," which is why it decided to interrupt the distribution of the messages.
