The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has conveyed to his American counterpart, Donald Trump, an initiative proposed by the Iranian president, Masud Pezeshkian, aimed at resolving the military conflict that has pitted Washington and Tehran against each other for months.
"President Putin had a telephone conversation in which he conveyed to the American president, Donald Trump, Iran's point of view for a possible resolution of the conflict in the Middle East," explained Kremlin spokesman, Dimitri Peskov, to the Russian press.
Peskov noted that Putin and Pezeshkian met on two occasions during the summit of member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Caspian Environmental Summit held in Turkmenistan on Friday, meetings in which they discussed the planned call between the Russian leader and the American president, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
"Then, and in accordance with the Iranian president, Putin conveyed to Trump Iran's point of view for a possible resolution of the conflict," Peskov pointed out, specifying that the conversation took place on Friday.
During his meeting with Pezeshkian, Putin described the situation in the Middle East as "serious" and expressed that Russia intends to "do everything possible to help resolve it." "We know that Iran is making sincere attempts to end the conflict that started in the region without any responsibility on their part and has again proposed new proposals for a peaceful solution," he added.
This exchange also addressed the war in Ukraine, which, according to the Kremlin, was the "main topic of conversation" between Trump and Putin, along with bilateral relations.
"At the initiative of the American president Donald Trump, most of the telephone conversation with the Russian president Vladimir Putin was dedicated to the solution of Ukraine," Peskov explained later.
