At least two people have lost their lives and another 21 have been injured in the last hours after a new Russian missile attack against Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The projectiles have hit a nine-story residential block located in the Desnianski district and have directly impacted the CHPP-4 thermal power plant, one of the essential energy facilities for the city's supply.

The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, has explained on social media that among the injured is an eight-year-old child and that emergency teams have transported 16 of the affected to the hospital, four of them in serious condition. The impact on the residential building caused a fire that spread from the first to the eighth floor, which forced rescue services to urgently evacuate the neighbors from the upper floors. In addition, the bombings have caused fires in a nearby warehouse and in a stadium in the same Desnianski district.

After the offensive, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has criticized that the air defense systems intercepted the missiles when they were already practically over the capital, something he has linked to the absence of early warnings from his Western allies. The head of state has accused Moscow of ignoring the proposal for an energy ceasefire promoted by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and has warned that Ukrainian intelligence anticipates new launches of ballistic missiles.

"Russia attacks another power plant and the life of our people (...). It is important that the United States and the world really see what is happening and who is responsible for this war continuing," Zelensky has claimed on social media.

This Russian attack takes place after Trump assured on Monday that he perceives a greater willingness in his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, than in the Ukrainian president to reach a peace agreement that ends the conflict. "I think that, in fact, Putin wants to make a deal more than Zelensky," the American president stated.
