Multiple people, including several children, have been injured in a shooting recorded at a primary school in the city of Bend, in the state of Oregon, in the northwest of the United States, after an individual accessed the educational center and opened fire. The attacker is, for now, the only confirmed fatality, after being shot "possibly" by a person who was at the scene, according to the municipal police.

In an official statement, the Bend Police explained that they mobilized their forces "at approximately 12:59 PM (local time, 9:59 PM in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands)," after receiving reports about "an active shooter" at Silver Rail primary school.

"The first call indicated that an unknown man had shot at a car," the police body pointed out, adding that, "in the following minute, the Deschutes County dispatch center received several 911 calls reporting that a person had entered the school and had begun to shoot."

According to the note, the first officers arrived at the school in just three minutes and, "seconds later, the officers reported that the suspect had been shot, possibly by a witness."

The authorities have specified that the shooter is, for the moment, the only deceased, although the Bend Police have emphasized that "there are several victims," including minors, and that "at least two" of them have been transferred to St. Charles Bend hospital, where "their condition is unknown at this time."

In light of this situation, the security forces "are evacuating all classrooms" of the center and are transporting students by bus to a church located just over two kilometers "for the process of reuniting with their families" and legal guardians, to whom the body has asked "to go to that location."

The police have also warned that "there will be a significant presence of law enforcement around the school and at Journey Church for as long as necessary," and urges the public to "avoid traveling through the area."

On the other hand, the superintendent of the Bend-La Pine school district, Steven Cook, has sent his "most heartfelt condolences to the families and to all the people affected by this violence" in a brief message disseminated by the Police itself, in which he emphasizes that the "immediate priorities" are to protect the students and the staff of the center, "as well as to provide support to the law enforcement and emergency teams."
