The head of the negotiating team of Iran and current president of the Parliament, Mohamed Baqer Qalibaf, stated this Sunday that the Islamic Republic has prevailed in the war against the United States and Israel, considering that neither of the two has achieved the goals they set when they began their attacks against the country on February 28. Among those objectives, he emphasized, was a complete regime change and the disappearance of the authority of the ayatollahs as a priority.
During an intervention broadcast by the state radio and television IRIB, Qalibaf maintained that his country has "won the military and political dimensions" of the conflict and defended that the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States on June 17, considered the central basis of the talks to officially close the conflict, "is a document of honor and victory" for Tehran.
The president of the Parliament has acknowledged that Iran's victory "does not mean that the U.S. Army has been destroyed," but he stressed that the current situation evidences an "absolute defeat for the United States and the Zionist regime," referring to Israel, which would have set a series of goals "and has not achieved any."
