The president of the United States, Donald Trump, lashed out this Friday against the progressive Abdul el Sayed, winner of the Democratic primary for the Senate in Michigan, whom he called a "jihadist lunatic" in a new barrage of verbal attacks. On Thursday, he had already described him as a "sympathizer of terrorists" and "radical extremist."
Trump spread his message on social media after the debate held in recent hours between El Sayed and the Republican Mike Rodgers, of whom he stated that "he is a great American patriot" and maintained that his ally "totally destroyed" the Democrat during the face-to-face.
"If it had been a fight, they would have stopped it," the president asserted. "Mohamad is a jihadist lunatic who hates our country, the black people of Detroit, and wants to see how the United States fails," he added, insisting on referring to him as Mohamad and not as Abdul, something he has repeated several times recently.
"He is short on stature, patriotism, and truth. Mohamad's claims have been loaded with lies and deceit," emphasized the occupant of the White House, who on Thursday had already pointed out that El Sayed "is a terrible candidate for the 'dumocrats' --a play on words linking Democrats with stupidity--."
In that same vein, Trump declared that "Mohamad goes back to the days of jihad" and that "he is a radical extremist" and "a sympathizer of terrorists." "He is the wrong choice for Michigan and for the United States. Vote for Mike Rogers. He has my full support and will not disappoint you," concluded the Republican.
After Thursday's messages, the Democratic candidate responded ironically to the fact that Trump constantly repeats his name. "He knows my name is Abdul. He is not just attacking me. He is attacking all of us. He holds us in low esteem. He thinks he can use my name and my faith to distract us from the suffering that his policies cause us at the gas stations, the stores, and the doctor's appointments."
"He thinks we don't know any better. It's time for a change," wrote El Sayed on social media. The politician, whose full name is Abdulrahman Mohamed el Sayed, 41 years old, was born in Michigan, is the son of Egyptian immigrants, and won the Democratic primary against Haley Stevens.
Trump has fully engaged in the campaign for the midterm elections, the 'midterms', which will be held in less than a month and in which a third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives will be renewed, currently under the control of the president's Republican Party.
