The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has conveyed to Pope Leo XIV his wishes for a "quick recovery" after the surgical intervention he underwent this Tuesday at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome to remove a malignant tumor in his lung.
In brief statements to the media, Trump stated: "I hope he gets better. That he recovers quickly." The American leader added: "I have heard about the prognosis for that type of problem. It's cancer. It's something serious, whenever it comes to cancer," emphasizing the seriousness of such ailments.
Trump also wanted to highlight his personal connection with the Pope's surroundings, stating that the Pope's brother is a "friend." "He's a fantastic guy, both he and his wife. They are great supporters of Trump," he noted, before adding: "I can say that his brother loves him very much. He loves the Pope a lot, and that's good."
Regarding the health status of Leo XIV, the latest medical report released on Wednesday by the Holy See indicates that the Pontiff is "as expected" in his recovery process and that he is already getting up and walking around his room, after the operation on Tuesday in which he underwent the total removal of a pulmonary adenocarcinoma.
