Two agents of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection have died and a third has been injured in a shooting attack recorded in the municipality of Omealca, in the state of Veracruz, on the southwest coast of Mexico.
The Mexican Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch, has indicated that "While Federal Agents of the Secretariat of Security were carrying out investigative work in Omealca, Veracruz, they were attacked with gunfire by members of organized crime." After the attack, a large operation was deployed with security forces "to locate and arrest those responsible."
García Harfuch has emphasized that "This crime will not go unpunished. Those responsible will be brought to justice" and has conveyed his condolences and support to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the two deceased agents, while highlighting the work of federal bodies in the fight against organized crime.
