The U.S. Executive has communicated this Friday that it has revoked the visa of the former Iraqi minister Taif Sami al Shakarchi, after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) included her in its terrorism-related watchlist.
According to the State Department, the entry authorization for the former Finance Minister of the last cabinet of Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al Sudani, in which she served between 2022 and 2026, has been withdrawn "following her inclusion in the FBI's terrorist watchlist."
The U.S. diplomacy has also specified that Al Shakarchi "is no longer" in U.S. territory and emphasized that, under the presidency of Donald Trump, "suspects of terrorism will never be allowed to remain" in the country.
In 2022, the leader was honored by the Joe Biden Administration with the International Women of Courage Award, a recognition she received from then-Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and First Lady Jill Biden for her work in favor of gender equality.
At 63 years old, Al Shakarchi is an economist trained at the University of Baghdad and before taking on the Finance portfolio in 2022, she held various high-responsibility positions within the Iraqi administration.
