The president of the PP and candidate for La Moncloa, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, will return this Wednesday to Ceuta to once again stage his support for the president of the autonomous city, Juan Jesús Vivas, for the management carried out since the massive entry of around 80,000 irregular migrants on July 30 and 31.
This Tuesday, both were already together in Madrid, on the occasion of the award ceremony by the Senate of its Gold Medal to the presidents of Ceuta and Melilla in recognition of their political careers and as institutional support for both cities after the crisis that opened at the end of July.
During the event, both presidents have claimed the Spanish identity of the two cities and the need to strengthen their defense and the presence of the State. "Ceuta is not for sale, Ceuta is defended, Ceuta is Spain," Vivas has stated.
The PP insists on the defense of Ceuta and denounces the lack of normality
Sources from the PP have indicated that in this new visit to Ceuta, Feijóo will also take the opportunity to reiterate "his strong commitment to the Spanish identity" of Ceuta --and also of Melilla-- after "the invasion" suffered more than two months ago.
In addition, the president of the Popular Party will emphasize his support for the people of Ceuta "in the face of the difficult situation they suffer daily more than two months after this attack" on the "territorial integrity" of Spain, the same sources have added.
From 'Génova' they denounce that normality has not yet been recovered and that many people from Ceuta feel afraid to go out on the street due to the situation of insecurity, according to sources from the party. However, the president of the Government defended this Tuesday that "the situation of the autonomous city is improving" and has requested collaboration from the autonomous communities to provide a "solution" for the migrant minors.
Feijóo has chosen Ceuta to make his first trip after Pedro Sánchez's announcement to dissolve the Cortes and bring forward the call for general elections for next November 29.
This will be Feijóo's fifth trip to Ceuta. The last time he visited the autonomous city was on September 21, accompanied by the president of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, and several MEPs.
Agenda coincidence: Feijóo and Arcadi España call the press at the same time
The Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, will also travel this Wednesday to Ceuta, where he will hold a meeting with Vivas at 10:30 a.m. in the Assembly Palace. Afterwards, he will meet with Ceuta businessmen and at 1:00 p.m. he has called a press conference at the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Ceuta, according to the Executive.
It is at the same time that Feijóo has called the media in Ceuta, a coincidence that has provoked criticism from the PP. Thus, the 'popular' have pointed out that "trying to counter-program" Feijóo in a city like Ceuta, "taking into account the hardships that citizens in general and reporters in particular have faced on the ground," is "a frivolity typical of a Government on the verge of a nervous breakdown," party sources have stated.
"They not only use Moncloa to try to gain an advantage over the Popular Party but also use the Government delegations as itinerant campaign headquarters to try to take prominence away from Feijóo in the territory," the same sources have assured.
According to the PP, "they must be very nervous" in the Government to "try to mark the president of the PP even at the cost of complicating life for the media." "They are right to be afraid. In fifty-four days, sanchismo will end," sources from Feijóo's team have stated.
