The president of the PP and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, will return this Sunday to Barcelona to lead a large pre-campaign rally for the general elections alongside the Catalan PP led by Alejandro Fernández.
In "Génova," they assume that Catalonia is a decisive scenario for reaching the Palacio de la Moncloa due to the high number of seats it distributes, 48 out of the 350 in Congress. For this reason, Feijóo and his deputy secretaries have intensified their visits to this community in preparation for the general elections on November 29. This Saturday, in addition, the deputy secretary of Regeneration, Cuca Gamarra, will speak at an event in Lleida.
The leader of the PP already traveled to Catalonia on September 20 to attend the "Fiesta de las Migas" in Badalona (Barcelona), accompanied by its mayor, Xavier García-Albiol, and various leaders of the Catalan PP.
Three trips in a month to strengthen the Catalan PP
Feijóo returned to Barcelona 10 days later to hold a meeting with the business association of Terrassa (CECOT) and continue detailing the economic reforms he intends to implement if he reaches the Palacio de la Moncloa, with the aim of recovering purchasing power and modernizing the economy.
The 'populars' seek to contain the advance of Vox, which is gaining ground in Catalonia just as in other autonomous communities, according to several polls. In the 2023 general elections, the PP achieved six deputies in Congress (five from Barcelona and one from Tarragona), but they are confident of improving those results in the Catalan capital and obtaining representation also in Lleida and Girona.
Feijóo returns to Barcelona while the uncertainty remains about who will be the head of the list for the general elections on November 29. Despite the secrecy of "Génova," various party officials point to the mayor of Badalona as the main favorite to lead the candidacy for Barcelona.
Albiol, a reference for the PP in his speech against irregular immigration, has not ruled himself out, although he has reiterated his willingness to continue at the head of the City Council. "I am the mayor of Badalona, I will help my party in everything that I am asked to do that is compatible with the mayoralty," he stated this Friday before the media in Elche (Alicante).
