United Left (IU) maintains that in recent years the presence of "deeply reactionary" agents in the National Police and the Civil Guard has increased. For this reason, the organization proposes to promote measures to ensure that members of the State Security Forces receive adequate "training in democratic values" during their time in the academies.
This was pointed out in an interview with Europa Press by the federal coordinator of IU, Antonio Maíllo, who emphasized the importance of incorporating "democratic culture" solidly into the curricula of future personnel.
"It is evident that we advocate for the updating of the adequacy of security levels related to means and guarantees, and we also place great importance on the training of members of the State security groups in a democratic culture," he explained.
The IU leader acknowledges that "a public servant should not be forced to state what their ideology is," but insists that every public employee must comply with the law "within a constitutional and democratic framework" and that, in recent times, "practices" have been observed that deviate from that framework.
Controls and evaluations in the academies
In this scenario, the left-wing federation integrated into Sumar proposes to "greatly stimulate a kind of control, monitoring, and evaluation" on this issue in the training centers of the different police bodies.
"It is necessary to have a guarantee of training in democratic values, which we believe has been somewhat sidelined in recent years and is causing deeply reactionary people to enter the security bodies who are applying their ideals to their work as public servants," Maíllo warns.
