More than 260 municipalities across the country have given their formal support to citizen gatherings in front of their town halls on September 2 at 8:00 PM, coinciding with the Day of Ceuta, joining the initiative "For Ceuta" in support of the autonomous city after the recent migration crisis.
The call encourages residents to gather in front of their respective town halls, except in Madrid capital, where the protest will be held in front of the Congress of Deputies.
The "For Ceuta" campaign, which emerged on social media, has been channeling various local calls through its website and offers guidance on organizing the protests. The portal specifies which town halls have officially promoted the gatherings and which respond only to the citizen call spread on social media.
At the same time, the president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), María José García-Pelayo, has encouraged Spanish town halls to support the citizen mobilization called on social media that will take place in Ceuta.
At least 260 localities, including the sister city of Melilla, have already confirmed their participation, along with a planned gathering in Brussels in front of the European Parliament, while more municipalities are expected to join this wave of support.
Andalusia
In Andalusia, Málaga is the province with the highest number of calls, with protests announced in the capital and in Mijas, Rincón de la Victoria, Benalmádena, Nerja, Benahavís, Fuengirola, Alhaurín de la Torre, Vélez, Marbella, Ronda, Torremolinos, Estepona, Antequera, and Coín.
In Seville, gatherings have been scheduled in Écija, Utrera, La Rinconada, Alcalá de Guadaira, and Tomares, in addition to the capital, in front of the main facade of the Town Hall, in Plaza Nueva.
In the province of Almería, along with the capital, Roquetas de Mar, Berja, Albox, Macael, Olula del Río, and Huércal-Overa have joined.
In Cádiz, in addition to the capital, Chiclana de la Frontera, Barbate, Villamartín, Rota, El Puerto de Santa María, Algeciras, Los Barrios, Jerez de la Frontera, La Línea de la Concepción, Ubrique, and Tarifa have joined.
In Granada, protests have been officially called in Santa Fe, Motril, and Almuñécar, in addition to the capital itself. In Huelva, the gatherings will be held in the city of Huelva and in Aracena, La Palma del Condado, and Isla Cristina.
Balearic Islands
In the Balearic Islands, the City Council of Palma, in Mallorca, has joined the citizen call supported by the FEMP to gather in front of the city hall. A concentration has also been announced in Ibiza.
Canary Islands
In the Canary Islands, the protests will begin at 7:00 PM (local time), following the citizen call that anticipates gatherings in four municipalities. In Tenerife, there has been a call to demonstrate in front of the City Council of Santa Cruz.
In Gran Canaria, two events have been organized: one in Las Palmas, in the Plaza de Santa Ana, and another in Telde, in the Plaza de San Juan. In Fuerteventura, the concentration will take place next to the city hall of Puerto del Rosario, while in Lanzarote it will be in Arrecife, where the capital will host the protest spread on social media.
Valencian Community
In the Valencian Community, in addition to the capital, the province of Valencia has seen Torrent, L'Alcúdia de Crespins, Llocnou de la Corona, Gandía, Carcaixent, Burjassot, and Sagunto join in.
In Castellón, concentrations are scheduled for 8:00 PM in Castellón de la Plana, Nules, Segorbe, Almassora, and Burriana.
The province of Alicante is the one with the most calls in the community, with protests in Jávea, El Verger, Guardamar del Segura, Elche, Teulada, Santa Pola, Elda, Benidorm, Calpe, Pilar de la Horadada, Almoradí, Cox, Granja de Rocamora, Torrevieja, Orihuela, Callosa de Segura, Catral, Redován, Albatera, Sax, Callosa d'en Sarrià, Finestrat, Villajoyosa, and Polop de la Marina, in addition to the capital.
Community of Madrid
In the Community of Madrid, the main call will be the official protest in front of the Congress of Deputies. It is the region with the highest number of calls, with concentrations in Alcalá de Henares, Alcobendas, Algete, Becerril de la Sierra, Boadilla del Monte, Brunete, Colmenar Viejo, Colmenarejo, El Escorial, Galapagar, Guadarrama, Hoyo de Manzanares, Las Rozas, Majadahonda, Moralzarzal, Paracuellos del Jarama, Pozuelo de Alarcón, San Fernando de Henares, San Sebastián de los Reyes, Torrelodones, and Tres Cantos.
In the southern area of the region, protests have been called in Aranjuez, Arganda del Rey, Arroyomolinos, Ciempozuelos, Fuenlabrada, Humanes de Madrid, Leganés, Loeches, Móstoles, Pinto, Torrejón de la Calzada, Torres de la Alameda, and Villaviciosa de Odón.
Cantabria
In Cantabria, concentrations are planned in front of the city halls of Castro Urdiales, El Astillero, Santander, and Santoña.
Castilla-La Mancha
In Castilla-La Mancha, the province of Toledo has announced calls in the capital and in Bargas, Casarrubios del Monte, Dosbarrios, Illescas, Madridejos, Quintanar de la Orden, Seseña, Talavera de la Reina, Villatobas, and Yepes.
In Albacete, protests have been called in the provincial capital, Caudete, and Villarobledo. In Cuenca, the official concentrations will take place in Horcajo de Santiago and in the capital. In Guadalajara, there are calls in El Casar, Torrejón del Rey, and the city of Guadalajara.
Castilla y León
In Castilla y León, in Valladolid, concentrations have been scheduled in Arroyo de la Encomienda and in the capital. In León, the protests will be held in Astorga, Carracedelo, La Virgen del Camino, Ponferrada, and the city of León itself. In Salamanca, they have been planned in Béjar, Guijuelo, and in the Plaza Mayor of the capital. In Ávila, there will be calls in Arévalo and in the capital, while in Burgos and Soria, the demonstrations will take place in their respective capitals.
Cataluña
In Catalonia, in the province of Barcelona, protests have been called in Badalona, Cornellà de Llobregat, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sabadell, Terrassa, and in the capital. In Tarragona, the concentrations will be held in Reus and in the city of Tarragona, and in the provinces of Girona and Lleida, the protests have been scheduled in their capitals.
Extremadura
In Extremadura, in the province of Badajoz, concentrations have been announced in the capital of Badajoz, Mérida, Azuaga, Don Benito, Fregenal de la Sierra, Los Santos de Maimona, and Montijo. In Cáceres, there will be protests in the capital and in Casar de Cáceres.
Galicia
In Galicia, in A Coruña, concentrations have been called in Ferrol, Santiago de Compostela, and in the capital. In Pontevedra, protests are expected in Vigo and in the provincial capital.
La Rioja
In La Rioja, demonstrations have been scheduled in Calahorra, Haro, and Logroño.
Murcia
In the Region of Murcia, concentrations are planned in Águilas, Alcantarilla, Archena, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cartagena, Cieza, Jumilla, Lorca, Mazarrón, Molina de Segura, San Javier, Torre Pacheco, and in the capital.
Navarra, País Vasco y Asturias
In Navarra, calls have been made in front of the town halls of Pamplona and Tudela. In the Basque Country, demonstrations have been called in front of the city councils of Bilbao, San Sebastián, and Vitoria.
In the Principality of Asturias, protests will be held in Gijón, Pola de Lena, and Oviedo.
