The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has lashed out this Friday against the decision of the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, to close the Metro station at Puerta del Sol, considering that her action means "screwing" the users of the subway "exclusively out of malice".
"She is a miserable and evil person. She screws public transport users solely and exclusively out of malice. She has "black guts"", Óscar Puente wrote on the social network X, raising the tone of the political confrontation over the closure of this key station in the center of the capital.
The announcement of the closure of the Metro station was made by Isabel Díaz Ayuso herself this Friday in an interview, where she explained that the measure is adopted after requests from occupational risk prevention and various unions for the closure due to the "unsanitary conditions" detected inside, derived from the housing camp set up in the square.
Meanwhile, Cercanías —dependent on Renfe and the Ministry headed by Óscar Puente— has communicated that it maintains access to its trains in Sol through the entrance popularly known as "the whale", as it has not "detected health problems" in its facilities.
According to the version of the Community of Madrid, the Metro station at Sol will remain closed "until further notice" with the aim of carrying out "urgent cleaning work" after high levels of ammonia have been recorded, which they attribute to the accumulation of urine, feces, and other organic waste linked to the housing camp.
Sources from the regional government have specified that the closure occurred at 12:15 PM due to the impossibility of "guaranteeing the safety of the workers", and have emphasized that the reopening will depend on the completion of the cleaning of the substances accumulated in the station's ventilation points.
In an intervention on "esRadio", Díaz Ayuso stated that "nobody knows what is being suffered in the center of Madrid" and that citizens cannot "go shopping and to restaurants", denouncing that "all the surrounding streets and all the shops are empty because people are afraid to go shopping in that environment".
The regional president also held the head of the central Executive responsible for the situation: "What happens in Madrid is Pedro Sánchez, who has decided that he is going to have the city wrecked, stuck, uncomfortable because he cannot stand that we are doing well and because he wants to show the Spain that awaits us."
Letter to the Government delegate and union reaction
In parallel, the counselor of Housing, Transport and Infrastructures, Jorge Rodrigo, has sent a letter to the Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, in which he conveys all this information and urges him to take the appropriate measures to clear the camp, in order to guarantee access to the square for the teams and means necessary to carry out the urgent cleaning work.
On the other hand, the unions CC.OO., UGT and Solidaridad Obrera have pointed out in a statement that the union organizations are not the ones who have requested the closure of the station. They maintain that, until the president made it public, they had "no news of the events."
Cercanías, for its part, has reiterated that "it has not detected these health problems nor has there been any incident related to the camp taking place in Sol, so it finds no reason for the closure." In addition, it has emphasized that "Cercanías trains will stop at the Sol station as on a normal day."
