The president of the Government and general secretary of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, will be this Sunday, October 11, in Ponferrada (León) to participate in a political event alongside the general secretary of the socialists of Castilla y León, Carlos Martínez.
This stop in the Bercian city will take place after his presence this Saturday in Dos Hermanas (Sevilla), thus chaining his first two appearances of the pre-campaign after announcing this Monday the advance of the general elections to next November 29.
From the PSOE of Castilla y León, they emphasize that the designation of Ponferrada for one of Sánchez's first events implies "that León will have a prominent role from the beginning of the electoral calendar."
The socialist organization in the Community plans to focus on this meeting, in which Sánchez will again share the stage with Martínez, as happened during the campaign for the regional elections on March 15. In those elections, the PSOE managed to improve its results by going from 28 to 30 deputies, although the PP of Alfonso Fernández Mañueco won again with 33 seats, two more than in 2022, while Vox reached 14 representatives.
In that regional campaign, the head of the Executive supported the then socialist candidate both at the start, in a rally in Burgos, and in subsequent events in Soria and at the campaign closing in Valladolid.
At the final event in the capital of Valladolid, Sánchez was backed by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, and the former president of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who months later would end up being charged with alleged irregularities regarding the rescue of 53 million euros granted by the Executive to the airline Plus Ultra during the pandemic.
