The president of the Government and general secretary of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, will celebrate this Saturday, October 10, a rally in Dos Hermanas (Sevilla), a municipality traditionally considered a stronghold of Andalusian socialism. The event will take place on the first weekend of the pre-campaign for the general elections on November 29, elections whose call was announced last Monday and to which he will run again as the head of the PSOE list.

At the rally, the general secretary of the PSOE of Andalusia and deputy general secretary of the federal PSOE, María Jesús Montero, and the mayor of Dos Hermanas and secretary of Organization of the PSOE-A, Francisco Rodríguez, will also speak. The event will begin at 11:30 hours in the municipal auditorium Los del Río, located in the La Alquería park, and will be broadcast live through the PSOE channel on Youtube, according to the party itself.

With this event, the leader of the PSOE is betting again on a key enclave for the party in Andalusia as the stage for his first major pre-campaign event, just as he did before the general elections of 2023, when on June 18 he launched his candidacy for those elections from there.

Dos Hermanas was also the place chosen by Pedro Sánchez in January 2017 to announce that he would run for the primaries with the aim of recovering the General Secretariat of the PSOE, a position he had resigned from on October 1, 2016, after a tense Federal Committee marked by his rejection of the socialist group abstaining to facilitate the investiture of Mariano Rajoy (PP) after the elections of June 26 of that year.

In this municipality of almost 130,000 inhabitants, the PSOE governs with an absolute majority. Between 1983 and 2022, it did so uninterruptedly with Francisco Toscano as mayor, and since 2022 with Francisco Rodríguez at the head of the City Council after Toscano's resignation.

The rally this Saturday will also be held a little more than six months before the next municipal elections, scheduled for May 23, 2027, in which Francisco Rodríguez will run again with the aim of renewing the absolute majority he holds in the current mandate. In the local elections of 2023, the PSOE obtained 16 councilors, the same number as in 2019 and two above the threshold of the absolute majority in the Nazareno council.

Return of Sánchez to Andalusia after the elections of May 17

Pedro Sánchez will thus return this Saturday to Andalusia to lead a pre-electoral event after having accompanied María Jesús Montero in four rallies during the campaign for the Andalusian elections on May 17. In those elections, the PSOE-A positioned itself again as the second most voted force, although it recorded the worst result in its history in the Andalusian Parliament by remaining with 28 seats, two less than in 2022.

In that campaign, the Secretary General of the PSOE and President of the Government shared with the then candidate for the Junta, María Jesús Montero, four central events held in Cártama (Málaga), La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz), Pulianas (Granada), and Seville capital, where both closed the campaign on May 15.

Already in 2026, Sánchez had previously accompanied Montero in two pre-campaign events for the Andalusian regional elections, organized on two consecutive Sundays, on April 19 and 26, in Gibraleón (Huelva) and in Córdoba.

In a press conference held last Tuesday to assess the call for general elections, María Jesús Montero emphasized that Andalusia will be a "key piece" in those elections, being the community that contributes the most deputies to Congress --on this occasion, 60 of the 350 seats in the lower house--, and expressed her desire for Pedro Sánchez to be seen "a lot" in the region with different events during the pre-campaign and electoral campaign weeks.
