The Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, has repudiated the "violent acts" that occurred at the end of the concentration in support of Ceuta, called by Ceutians residing in the capital in front of the Congress of Deputies.
"Total condemnation of the violent acts that occurred at the end of the concentrations in Madrid," Martín stated in a message published on the social network 'X', referring to events that have left a balance of 4 police officers injured and 4 protesters arrested, two of them minors.
In the same line, the Government delegate has wanted to convey to the injured police officers his wish for "a speedy recovery" and has expressed "the utmost gratitude for their work" to "all the professionals of the security and emergency services" who intervened in the operation.
The altercations have been triggered after the concentration concluded in which Ceutians residing in Madrid demanded "immediate solutions" for the autonomous city, a protest that had initially taken place peacefully.
The situation began to tense and, around 9:20 PM, a group of participants started throwing objects at the officers, who responded by dispersing the crowd using tear gas and rubber balls.
On the other hand, Francisco Martín also wanted to recognize the work "of the harassed media," after, during the same concentration, several attendees shouted at journalists and tried to snatch the microphone from them while they were doing their informative work.
"All respect to those who legitimately and peacefully protest for the cause they consider. Violence is never the way and those who incite it daily are also responsible," the Government delegate stated, emphasizing the importance of preserving the peaceful exercise of the right to protest.
