The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has stated that it is "impossible" to accurately respond to how many migrants remain in Ceuta a month after the massive entry, and has emphasized that there are already 4,000 people who have voluntarily returned to Morocco since August 10.
The 'single command' designated by the Government in Ceuta has also highlighted that 3,500 places have been made available for immigrants and that resources are being considered to accommodate 6,000 people, also stressing that the returns will be carried out "more quickly" than in ordinary procedures thanks to the reinforcement of personnel in the autonomous city.
In an interview on "Cadena Ser Canarias," reported by Europa Press, the minister also referred to the adaptation of the port of Ceuta for the reception of immigrants, despite the refusal of the Executive of Juan Jesús Vivas, even though, as he recalled, it had already been agreed "unanimously" as stated in the minutes. "What alternatives do we have?" he questioned.
Situation of migrant minors and possible transfers
The person in charge of Territorial Policy has confirmed that the registration of 2,000 migrant minors has already been carried out, although he has warned that the number will continue to increase because there are still minors "on the street." He has also announced that after the meeting of the Council of Ministers this Tuesday, the official data will be updated.
Torres has reiterated that the priority of the Executive is the "family reunification" of these minors and has pointed out that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has not ruled out the "option" that they may be transferred to the peninsula, in line with the position defended by the Minister of Childhood and Youth, Sira Rego.
