The Minister of Culture and number 2 of the Frente Amplio candidacy for Barcelona, Ernest Urtasun, has criticized Junts by stating that their only obedience "is to the employers, whether Catalan or Spanish." He has done so in response to the statements of the Junts candidate for Congress, Miriam Nogueras, who this Saturday defended that her party is the only party of Catalan obedience that is running in the general elections.

Urtasun intervened this Sunday at an event of the Comuns in Blanes (Girona), accompanied by the Comuns-Frente Amplio candidate for Congress for Girona, Júlia Boada. From there, he defended that "to obey the people of Catalonia is to support the increases in the minimum wage," back the labor reform, and push forward the anti-eviction moratorium and the extension of rental contracts.

In the same vein, he accused Junts of positioning themselves on the side of the most powerful economic interests: "Between the interests of Catalonia and the interests of the rentiers of this country who speculate with people's lives, Junts per Catalunya has chosen to defend the interests of the rentiers," he emphasized.

The minister insisted that supporting these social policies is the true way to respond to the Catalan citizenry and not "to be an equidistant in the face of the possibility that fascism" takes over the Government.

"Comeback" of the left and role of the Frente Amplio

At another moment in his speech, Urtasun expressed confidence that during the electoral campaign there will be a "comeback" of the progressive forces. He emphasized that the emergence of the Frente Amplio has altered "the mood" of the leftist electorate.

According to him, the right "is nervous" in the face of this new scenario, and he argued that if Girona and Catalonia return to being the engine of the Frente Amplio, PP and Vox will return to the opposition.

Júlia Boada's call to mobilize the vote

For her part, Júlia Boada has called to revalidate the seat that the Comuns and Sumar space obtained in 2023, with the aim of "broadening democratic conquests."

She has demanded a new push at the polls to stop the far right and consolidate a progressive majority in the central Executive: "One more seat to stop fascism, to help revalidate the progressive Government, and to force the PSOE to implement leftist policies," she concluded.
