The Cathedral of Granada will remain closed to the public as a preventive measure after the seismic movements recorded this Tuesday, August 18, in the city of Granada and its metropolitan area.
The Archdiocese of Granada has communicated the decision pending the necessary reviews in the temple to check its condition after the earthquakes.
The closure also affects "Kerygma. The Art of Evangelizing", the exhibition currently hosted by the Cathedral and which will also not be able to be visited while the preventive measure is in place.
Other closed heritage spaces
The decision of the Archdiocese is not limited to the Cathedral. Other prominent religious and heritage sites in Granada also remain closed to the public.
Specifically, the measure affects the Parish Sagrario-Cathedral, the Royal Chapel of Granada, the Monastery of the Cartuja, and the Abbey of Sacromonte, all of which are places with a significant influx of visitors and tourists.
The Archdiocese has informed about these closures through a statement disseminated on its social media after the seismic movements recorded during the day.
Awaiting reviews
For the moment, the closures are preventive and will remain in place until the corresponding inspections can be carried out.
The Archdiocese has not reported specific damages in these spaces nor has it specified when they will be able to reopen. The reopening will depend on the checks that are carried out to determine their condition after the earthquakes.
