The Department of Agriculture of the Generalitat has distinguished eleven professionals with the Diploma of Mastery in Food Craftsmanship during the Night of Food Craftsmanship, an event that "puts into value the knowledge, creativity and career of the professionals who contribute to preserving and promoting the craft trades of the Catalan food sector," according to what it detailed this Monday in a statement.
This is an honorary recognition awarded to people who have achieved an "exceptional" mastery in their specialty and who stand out for their knowledge, their creative capacity and their continued contribution to food craftsmanship throughout their career.
In the list of awardees this year appear the pastry chefs Gisela Bellart and Jordi Juanola, as well as the cheesemakers Judit Carreira and Lluís Mauri.
The list of awardees is completed by the bakers Lluís Casas, Ramon Cendón, Mario Monzó, Marc Padró, Josep Maria Portet and Anabel Rodríguez, in addition to the butcher Xavier Codina.
Best Food Craftsman of the Year
At the same event, the second edition of the award for Best Food Craftsman of the Year was held, which went to Felip Abadal, baker of the Forn de Cabrianes, in Sant Fruitós de Bages (Barcelona).
This recognition distinguishes those initiatives that "contribute to improving and growing food craftsmanship," both through the production of traditional preparations and through the innovation, promotion and dissemination of these trades.
