Asturian Rural Union (URA) has conveyed to the other agricultural organizations its concern about the complicated situation currently facing the livestock sector, and has put on the table the option of starting mobilizations in response to the "lack of response" from the Administration to the claims made by the collective.
In a statement, URA details that last Wednesday it participated in the Monitoring Committee of the Vespa Velutina, held at the Aller Town Hall, a meeting attended by the general director of Livestock and the general director of Agricultural Planning.
According to the organization, in the last item on the agenda, the general director was urged to convene "urgently" the agricultural organizations, in order to analyze the situation of the sector, which it believes is conditioned by the increase in production costs, the decrease in prices, and a drought that is intensifying the problems of the farms.
URA maintains that, so far, it has not received a response to this request and reproaches the Ministry for an attitude that, in its opinion, constitutes a "dereliction of duties."
In light of this scenario, the organization indicates that it has contacted the rest of the agricultural entities to "join forces" and study, as well as prepare, possible mobilizations in response to the situation facing the sector.
At the same time, URA expresses its support for the protest called for this Monday, September 7, at 12:00 noon in front of the Colunga Town Hall, in defense of the sector and in rejection of the wolf issue and the management that, according to URA, is being carried out. The organization confirms that it will be present at this concentration.
URA also points out that next week a meeting will be held among the organizations that wish to join this joint initiative, with the aim of evaluating and specifying possible protest actions.
"What is happening with this Administration is not only a lack of respect towards those of us who represent the agricultural sector in Asturias. It is a lack of respect towards our entire sector," the organization has stated, adding that "we are not going to allow it."
