The spokesperson for CHA in the City Council of Jaca (Huesca), Laura Climente, expressed this Sunday her concern over the decision of the Government of Aragón to annul the authorization that allowed the screening of the film 'Palestina 36' at the IES 'Domingo Miral' in the locality.

In a statement sent to the media, Climente emphasized that it was "a cultural activity organized by Jaca with Palestine that already had permission and had been publicly announced."

The representative of Chunta Aragonesista opined that "what happened raises serious questions about the conditions of access to public educational spaces to develop cultural and social awareness activities."

In this line, she stressed that "we cannot normalize that a cultural activity has to be suspended after having received authorization. Freedom of expression, access to culture, and the possibility of knowing different historical realities are fundamental elements of a democratic society. Public spaces must facilitate dialogue and reflection, not become an obstacle to them."

Climente recalled that 'Palestina 36', directed by the Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir and selected by Palestine to compete for an Oscar nomination for best international film, focuses on the Arab revolt of 1936-1939 against the British Mandate. In her opinion, "knowing the historical background of international conflicts is essential to understand the present. Defending human rights means ensuring that these debates can be held with respect, plurality, and rigor, without preventing citizens from accessing cultural proposals due to their themes."

On the other hand, the deputy spokesperson for CHA and representative of the party in the Education, Science, and Universities Commission of the Cortes of Aragón, Isabel Lasobras, plans to register parliamentary initiatives in order to demand explanations from the Government of Aragón and clarify the criteria that have been followed to revoke the permission.

As she has announced, "the Administration must explain transparently what reasons justified this decision and what guarantees exist for the use of public educational spaces in cultural activities. We are going to take this matter to the Cortes so that the facts are clarified and respect for freedom of expression and access to culture is guaranteed."
