A worker in the insurance sector who performed duties as an insurance inspector in the municipality of Verín in Orense has accepted a sentence of 1 year and 8 months in prison, in addition to the commitment to pay compensation of 56,755.93 euros, after defrauding several clients by simulating their signature to appropriate their money.
The plea agreement was finalized this Wednesday in the Second Section of the Provincial Court of Orense. Along with the prison sentence and the payment of compensation, the court has also imposed a fine of nine months and one day, at a rate of 3 euros per day, for a crime of fraud and another continued crime of forgery of commercial documents.
According to the document from the Public Prosecutor's Office, the defendant had been working since 2012 for an insurance company and, in her last stage, served as an inspector for the entity in Verín (Orense). This position allowed her to "take advantage of her business credibility and the personal relationship she had with clients," as she had their personal data and knew the capital they had invested in various products of the insurer.
Signature simulation and diversion of money
According to the accusation, the woman forged the signature of several insured individuals to withdraw different sums of money from the funds they had contracted with the company, processing redemption requests to her own bank account.
In this way, in August 2019, she withdrew 30,455.93 euros from the investment fund of one of her clients. Subsequently, in January 2020, she withdrew 3,300 euros from the fund of another user and, between September and November 2020, she again charged the same client amounts of 3,000 euros, 5,000 euros, and another 5,000 euros. Finally, in November 2021, she stole 10,000 euros from the fund belonging to a third client, resorting in all cases to the imitation of their signatures.
