The third vice president and spokesperson of the Andalusian Executive, Carolina España, reiterated this Tuesday that the Junta de Andalucía demands the central Government the "immediate" reactivation of the Coordinating Body for Anti-Drug Operations (OCON-Sur) in light of the "climate of insecurity" that, in her opinion, drug trafficking is causing in the community, following the recent episodes of violence in Isla Cristina (Huelva) and Utrera (Sevilla).

Carolina España expressed this in an audio sent to the media after the deadly shooting recorded in the Huelva municipality of Isla Cristina, in which three people died --a 39-year-old woman pregnant with eight months, whose baby also ultimately died, another 62-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old minor--, and two others were injured, one of them lightly and another seriously --the 18-year-old son of one of the deceased--.

"In light of the recent events in Isla Cristina and Utrera, from the Andalusian Government we demand the immediate reopening of OCON-Sur from the Government of Spain," emphasized the also counselor of Economy, Finance, and European Funds, who recalled that "the tragic deaths of our civil guards some time ago should have marked a before and after".

In this line, the counselor insisted that the recent events occurring in the community "show that the dismantling of this elite unit has been a serious mistake that is leaving our agents unprotected," before warning that the activity of criminal networks linked to drug trafficking has extended beyond their traditional areas.

In this regard, the head of Economy and spokesperson warned that the problem "is not something exclusive to the Campo de Gibraltar, because it is spreading to all of Andalusia." In her view, drug trafficking "is running rampant" in the region due to the "gap left by the dismantling of this elite unit."

For this reason, the counselor reiterated the formal request to the central Executive to restore this police device as soon as possible and adopt strong measures against the increase in violence from organizations dedicated to drug trafficking.

"We demand from the Government of Spain the immediate reopening of OCON-Sur because a climate of insecurity is being created and it is a true irresponsibility on the part of the Government not to do anything and to stand idly by," concluded España.
