The Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, interpreted this Friday that the complaint registered by the Popular Party against the spokesperson of Más Madrid in the Assembly, Manuela Bergerot, for alleged threats, is part of a tactic to divert the focus in a pre-electoral scenario and thus evade the discussion about housing and the absence of initiatives from the right on this matter.
After attending an event of the Civil Guard at the Batalla del Salado barracks, Martín has asked the PP to focus on the real problems of the citizens and stop resorting to maneuvers that, in his opinion, seek to evade the debate around housing policies.
In this sense, the delegate has criticized the lack of assumption of responsibilities by the popular party, whom he has reproached for not having promoted effective measures to tackle the housing crisis either in the Community of Madrid or in the City Council of the capital. "I think there are people trying to distract too much, distract with whatever at this electoral moment," he pointed out.
Questioned about the demands of the PP for the Government Delegation to reinforce the security of its parliamentarians, Martín has avoided explicitly commenting on that request and has limited himself to emphasizing that the institution he heads develops its competencies daily in coordination with the State Security Forces and Corps.
Regarding institutional management, the delegate has insisted that both the Community and the City Council of Madrid should have fulfilled their role by providing responses to what he has described as a true drama in the housing sector, an area in which he considers that the PP has stopped fulfilling its obligations.
The controversy arises after the spokesperson of Más Madrid warned in the regional Plenary on Thursday that there will be no peace in the streets of the capital after the eviction of Maricarmen, an 87-year-old woman who recently passed away in the hospital after being thrown out of her home in the Retiro district.
After these words, the PP filed a complaint against Bergerot for alleged threats and sent a letter to the Government delegate in which it demanded security measures to protect the integrity of public representatives, officials, and party supporters.
On the other hand, when asked about the camp set up in Puerta del Sol against evictions and the eventual presence of far-left groups in the organization that would have displaced the Tenants' Union, Martín has invoked the right to assembly to justify the continuity of the collective. In this regard, he recalled that the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) already clarified to the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, that in Spain the exercise of the right to assembly must be defended for all citizens and not just for those who support the head of the regional Executive.
