Agroseguro estimates the amount of compensation for the damages suffered in the persimmon crops due to the "thermal burst" of last August 20 to be 17 million euros, an episode that was accompanied by intense hail in the province of Valencia.
The claims affect about 2,400 hectares and are concentrated mainly in persimmon farms in the Ribera del Júcar, where a "significant part" of the harvest has been harmed.
During a visit to Guadassuar (Valencia), one of the municipalities hardest hit by the storm, the general director of Agroseguro, Sergio de Andrés, pointed out that the Group "has reinforced the evaluation work, with about twenty collaborating experts already in the field."
He also specified that, "in the farms with practically total damages, the claim can be closed after a single visit," which will allow for the acceleration of compensation payments to the affected farmers.
De Andrés also emphasized the wide penetration of persimmon insurance in the Comunitat Valenciana, which is around 80 percent of the production, with nearly 12,000 insured hectares each campaign and a capital that exceeds 130 million euros.
This level of insurance has been "fundamental" given the high claims rate of recent years, marked by hailstorms and the significant damage in the fields caused during the dana of 2024.
According to the Group's statement, the compensations paid by Agroseguro to persimmon producers in the last five campaigns (2022-2026) are already nearing 100 million euros.
